The Nauyaca Waterfalls are located in the mountains of the southern zone, in a canyon approximately eighty meters wide. With two sets of falls measuring a combined 61 meters (200 feet) tall and a large natural pool of a thousand square meters for swimming. The Nauyaca waterfalls lie deep in the tropical rainforest in southern Costa Rica. Despite the remote location, the trailhead is located just 20 minutes from Dominical and is surprisingly easy to get to. If youβre visiting the popular destinations ofΒ Manuel Antonio or Uvita or Dominical in the Ballena National Park, you can definitely visit the Nauyaca on a day trip.
Getting There
A vehicle tour reservation is required to get to the Nauyaca falls ($32 USD), it includes round trip transportation and the right of admission. The road first following beside the beautiful Baru River and then ascending a steep hill. If you keep an eye out, you might even see some wildlife, like monkeys or birds. The best thing is that you will only walk 100 meters on steps to enjoy the waterfalls. The bad news is that the vehicle tour allows visitors to stay 2 hours only at the falls. But trust me, 2 hours is enough time to get married by Nauyaca waterfall and capture hundreds of amazing photos!

The Trail
The horseback tour and hike use the same well-maintained trail, first following beside the beautiful Baru River and then ascending a steep hill. If you keep an eye out, you might even see some wildlife, like monkeys or birds. We were fortunate on our visit to spot a Great Currasow, a large, turkey-like bird found only in the tropics, and tons of different hummingbird species.
